Jack D. Wheeler Academic Scholarship recognizing Brotherly Love
Established by the family, friends, and fraternity brothers of Jack D. Wheeler, class of 1961.
If anyone has ever heard past grand president Jack Wheeler speak, you would know from that point on who he was, and what he stood for! “Jackie Don” was extremely diligent during his time as an active and an alumnus with Sigma Phi Epsilon, asking for nothing in return. As many will admit, Jack was ALWAYS there for his brotherhood during the good times, as well as the bad.
He was certainly a man of respect and discipline, touring the country annually as SigEp’s Ambassador of Brotherhood. His speeches at Conclave and at smoker events during Rush Weeks were so powerful at times, by the time Brother Jack had finished, there would rarely be a dry eye in the entire place. Yes, Jack stood for a lot of things, but the most important relative to SigEp was “Brotherly Love”.
Jack served Sigma Phi Epsilon as chapter counselor, AVC President, district governor, SigEp Grand President from 1975-1977, and president and later life trustee of the SigEp National Education Foundation. His work would later be honored by Nationals by awarding Jack the “Order of the Golden Heart” which is the highest honor one can receive in Sigma Phi Epsilon. Jack passed away on September 25th, 2011 in Salado, TX, but his memory will, without a doubt, not be forgotten!
Gifts provided in Jack’s memory will go to those incoming freshmen who display some of the same qualities of our beloved brother. Jack, your memory lives on in this scholarship that bears your name.
